I spent this past weekend in Honesdale, PA, at the annual Highlights Magazine Illustrator's Party!!
Art Director Cindy Smith had a fabulous costume.
Kerrin and Lou joined me - this was my first time attending - and I didn't know exactly what to expect. We arrived to Boyds Mills late on Friday night, almost half past nine. Cindy Smith greeted us under the tent (we were wet from rain, tired from the long trip - and hungry) and quickly found vegetarian food for all of us! She was amazing! Within minutes Kelley Cunningham and a group of fellow illustrators joined us, sharing stories and laughter. The entire Highlights staff is just incredible; friendly, kind, caring, helpful. We quickly felt like part of their family.
Saturday was a fabulous day, spent with fellow illustrators - old friends and new. We started off with a wonderful presentation from Dilys Evans and ended the evening with square dancing!!
Sunday, after a hay ride and a hearty brunch, we headed out. But not until after we checked out some Golden Retriever puppies for sale along the road in Hawley. We had a five hour drive home, so we skipped buying one.
We broke up our trip back by stopping in at Barbara Lanza's for dinner. Barbara also had Rose Berlin and Terry Taylor over. It was fabulous stopping in to see Barbara - a great way to end a terrific weekend!
PS.... a heartfelt thanks to Scott for all his directions in and out of Beach Lake. :-)
